Text heard on Sample:

nachdem die golddrachen zahm geworden waren,
    malte man sie nur noch
mit farbiger tusche oder blauem lack auf
    sommerliche vasen,
kästchen, seidendraperien und papyrusrollen
    und es ging auch so.
mit der zeit jedoch wurden die zeichnungen
    vereinfachter und mehr
abstrakt, was bezeugt, daß dazumal mancher

after the gold-dragons had all been tamed,
    they were only painted
in colourful inks or in blue lacquer on
    summery vases,
caskets, papyrus scrolls and silken draperies -
    which was alright.
but as time pass'd by, the drawings grew a lot simpler
    and more abstract,
which shows that in those days
    not a few chinamen
regarded it a piece of cake to become
    a schoolmaster.
'twas at the beginning of a tiny december -
    and the poppy
was turning into a melancholic fable -
    far from any haze
when in the snow-beflutter'd juniper grove
