Unsuk Chin: New Hawkes Pocket Scores
Published in the famous Hawkes Pocket Score series, Unsuk Chin works cosmigimmicks and Violin Concerto No.1 are now available.

In response to a commission from the Nieuw Ensemble Amsterdam, the composer immediately thought of writing a work related to pantomime. In the imaginary theatre of cosmigimmicks, plucked instruments (guitar, mandolin and harp) play the main roles, while the other instruments (prepared piano, violin, trumpet and percussion) disguise themselves in order to join in a play of masques and mimicry.

Violin Concerto No.1
Composed in 2001 to commission from the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester in Berlin, where Chin was composer-in-residence during the 2001/02 season. The premiere was given on 20 January 2002 in Berlin by Viviane Hagner and the DSO under its music director Kent Nagano. In 2004 the Violin Concerto won the Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition.
